Children Who Witness Abuse Program
Group or 1-1 support for children age 3-18 years old who have witnessed family violence or been abused. Provides an opportunity for children to work through their feelings and gain healthy social and life skills.
How does Family Conflict Affect Children?
Children who Witness the abuse of thier mothers live iwth fear and anxiety, waiting for the next violent episode to occur.
What is the Intervention Program?
The program includes both individual and group counselling for children from pre-school age thru adolescence. A program for parents that may include counseling, support, parent education and parallel groups is also available.
What Services are Available?
Outreach counseling for children and teens aged 3 thru 18 years, within Hope and the surrounding area.
Childrens' Counseling and Support Group
This is a support group for children who have witnessed abuse or possibly experienced abuse in their families.
Support Group Goals
- To dispel common myths surrounding family violence and marital abuse.
- To provide a non-threatening environment to talk about feelings and help teach healthy ways to express anger, hurt and fear.
- To let the children know that they are not alone and help them share their thoughts and feelings with others from similar family situations.
- To define physical, emotional, verbal and sexual abuse. To let children know about their personal rights.
- To teach problem solving and coping skills.
- To identify the causes and effects of conflict.
