School-Based Drug & Alcohol Program

School - based prevention and intervention for students who are may be struggling with substance abuse. This includes;

  • one-on-one directed studies to students who have breached school policy regarding drug use

  • prevention lectures and seminars to students on the risks and harmful effects of substance use

  • brief intervention to students and referrals to the Youth Worker if necessary

  • support to parents and a resource to teachers and school administrators

Statement on Addictions

Addiction is a complex illness that affects different people in different ways; it is a loss of control over substance use. Some people may have problems controlling how much or how often they use a substance or they may need to take more of it to achieve the desired effect.

It is characterized by a compulsion to use a substance to feel good, or to avoid feeling bad.

An addiction can be a physical dependency;

  • caused when repeated use of a substance changes your body's chemistry; and/or a psychological dependency

  • caused when you repeat certain behaviors, such as drug use, until your mind is hooked on that pattern of behaviors, causing mental cravings.

Addiction touches us all at some point in our lives, addiction affects us all, so it is crucial that everyone is aware of the dangers of addiction and the signs to watch for.

Patterns & Signs of Addictions

  • Is substance use affecting your relationships in a negative way?

  • Have you ever thought about stealing to pay for substance abuse habit?

  • Are you in debt because of your addiction?

  • Do you need more drugs or drink more to get the same effect?

  • Do you need drugs or alcohol to get through the day?


Services Available

For youth and adults who are dealing with a substance abuse problem.

Services are offered in 1-1 and/or group sessions. Case management, assessment, treatment and goal planning are offered as part of the continuum of support services.
